How do I tell my parents that i’m bisexual??

my boyfriend and i have been dating for alil over a year now. i love him very much and he says he feels the same about me. we had sex for the first time about a month ago. ever since then i keep gettin the feeling that our relationship is turning into just a physical attraction. he doesnt call me anymore or ever just want to watch a movie, go for a walk or just talk to me. everytime we hang out we end up doing sexual things and everytime we talk that all we talk about. im afraid our relationship is becoming based on sex and i want to know wat to do about this?

It sounds like you’re struggling to decide the details of how you want to tell your mom that you are bisexual. I am wondering how your mom has reacted to unexpected news in the past. Since one of the best predictors of future behavior is past behavior, this may give you some clues around the best time/way to tell her (e.g. if she tends to be grumpier during the week than on weekends or likes shorter vs. longer conversations, etc.). As for how to tell her, what options have you considered? It’s important to remember that it is up you you how much/what details you want to tell your mom. Just because she asks doesn’t mean that you have to share something if you don’t feel comfortable. As for having your gay friend over with her parents, i’m wondering how you think that this might affect the situation. It is possible that your mom could feel cornered or ganged up on and this may not have the effect that you were hoping for. Regardless of what you decide, I think that it’s really important to make sure that you build lots of fun and time with people who you feel supported by into the days before and after you decide to tell her. This will help you to manage the situation if it doesn’t go as you would like it to. All the best!

Danielle I really want to encourage you to go onto our chatroom at http://www.teenrelationships.org/chatroom/ to chat live with a specially trained counselor about this. They may be able to help you sort out some of your concerns and feelings if you can give them some more information. Learning about one’s sexuality and how to talk about it with others can be really scary and I want you to know that we are here to support you and talk with you. Again, it sounds like you may really benefit from coming into the chatroom, and we would love to chat with you. Take Care.

I would recommend you tell your mother when the right time comes along, even if it’s months from now. I agree with the admin, not everything has to be shared with her if you’re not comfortable.
If your mother’s anything like mine, I wouldn’t say anything! lol But that’s an issue between my mother and myself. Then again, as long as you’re comfortable with yourself, and you feel you are a good person, you don’t need any body’s approval.
